Between Encinitas and Lima: The Provenance of the First Layer

How coastal California ease and Peruvian textile heritage shape an uncompromised foundation

VIMERA began with a geographic dialogue: two places along the same Pacific coastline, connected through a single garment.

Encinitas is where we design. It is defined by quiet morning light, the rhythm of coastal life, and an unhurried approach to daily rituals. It is an environment that values natural materials, clean space, and objects made with restraint.

Lima is where we craft. It is a city anchored in an ancient textile lineage, home to skilled seamstresses and the world’s most prized natural plant fiber: extra-long staple Peruvian Pima cotton.

Sourcing at the Epicenter

When designing the layer worn closest to the body, standard commercial cotton was never an option.

Peru’s northern coastal valleys possess a rare confluence of geography: steady equatorial sun, rich alluvial soils, and cooling maritime breezes. Here, heirloom Pima cotton produces extra-long staple fibers nearly 40% longer than conventional cotton.

Because the raw cotton is traditionally hand-picked rather than stripped by industrial harvesters, the cellular structure and natural waxes of the fiber remain undamaged. When spun, these continuous long filaments yield a remarkably smooth, silky jersey that resists pilling and blooms softer with every gentle wash.

By keeping our sourcing and production rooted in Lima, our fabric travels directly from coastal fields to local heritage mills, preserving quality at every step.

Craft in the Workshop

Underwear is often treated as a disposable, high-volume commodity. Mass-market production relies on automated shortcuts: blending synthetic elastane directly throughout the yarn to force a forgiving stretch, leaving raw, abrasive synthetic bands exposed against delicate skin.

At our partner workshop in Lima, construction is deliberate and small-batch:

  • Unblended Pima Body: Every silhouette is cut from 100% Organic Peruvian Pima combed jersey, allowing the skin to breathe without synthetic barrier films.

  • Encased Elastic Architecture: Structural waistbands and leg openings are meticulously wrapped and buffered within soft Pima jersey. The internal elastic provides quiet, reliable hold, while ensuring elastane doesn't sit against the skin.

  • Clean Finishing: No abrasive exterior tags, no visible brand marks, and no chemical post-washes.

The Arrival

The consideration given to the garment extends to how it enters your home.

Rather than single-use plastic polybags that head straight for the landfill, every order is folded into our signature raw cotton envelope. Breathable, reusable, and crafted from natural plant fiber, it is designed to protect your pieces in transit and remain useful in your daily drawer or travel bag for years.

What sits closest to the body deserves the highest level of intention. The first layer sets the tone.
